Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield (Downtown and Southwest campuses) are part of the Dignity System and have been servicing the local community and Kern County for more than a century. As a 200+ bed Level II Trauma Center, they offer a broad range of in- and outpatient surgical services such as general, orthopedic, gynecologic, urologic, neurosurgical, ENT and gastroenterology—and deliver more than 2,000 newborns each year.

Specialized programs include the area’s only inpatient oncology unit, the Mercy Weight Loss Surgery Program, Orthopedic, Spine, and Hand Center and a Family Birth Center.

COMMUNITY OVERVIEW

Founded just after the Gold Rush, Bakersfield is now known for its strong agricultural and energy economy. Bakersfield has hundreds of miles of bike paths and nearly 60 parks. From there it is a short drive to the Sierra Nevada Mountains including Sequoia and Los Padres National Forests.

Situated between LA (~2 hours) and San Francisco (~4 hours), it has a traveler-friendly airport with direct connections to San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver and Dallas; an Amtrak Station that services the San Joaquin Route has stops in Sacramento and San Francisco.
